Project Description

Our customer wished to retain the sentimental value of her grandfather’s old workbench but in a more useful form, compatible with a refined living space.

Since the bench did not have particular collectible value and having suffered deterioration and replacement of some base components, she focused on reusing the original heavy red oak top.

From this rugged seven foot plank and several lesser components, we designed and fashioned two very nice console tables in mission styling.

In combination with new wood, each retains much of the historic character of the original top while affording greater utility and simplicity of maintenance. At 40” long, 30” tall, and 14” deep, these lovely tables are finished with a satin lacquer in their natural red oak color.

Incidentally, the customer kept the two bench vises as heirlooms and artifacts for her home.
